Call-out for Touring Fund Panel Members

Creative Scotland is seeking qualified individuals to join the first decision panel for the new Touring Fund for Theatre and Dance.

The Touring Fund will support the touring of the theatre and dance, enhancing opportunities for artists, producers and companies to work more collaboratively with venues to grow audiences and provide greater access to high quality work across Scotland.

The Touring Fund has been developed in consultation with members of the touring Theatre and Dance sector, in collaboration with the Federation of Scottish Theatre, and is a response to the recommendations of the Review of Theatre and Dance Touring in Scotland published in April 2017.  The first round of applications for the £2m Fund for 2019/20 opened on 2 August 2018, with a deadline of 6 November 2018.

The Touring Fund panel will comprise of four Creative Scotland specialist staff and five Panel Members contracted through this process, to work together. Panel Members will be expected to hold credible professional knowledge and expertise of the Theatre and Dance Touring sector in Scotland, either from a venue programming perspective or as a maker/producer of touring work.

The call-out for Panel Members will take place through a Tender process. The deadline for submissions, to be made through the Scottish Government e-Tendering System, Public Contracts Scotland, is 12noon on Friday 2 November 2018.

Touring Fund for Theatre and Dance

This fund aims to change the way we tour publicly funded theatre and dance productions and support greater access to a variety of theatre and dance for a diverse audience. It also aims to provide broader opportunities for a more diverse range of artists and producers.

The fund opened for application on 2 August 2018 with a deadline of 6 November 2018. There will be two further deadlines in 2019 which will be published in early 2019.

Touring Fund applications will be assessed by Creative Scotland staff against the following criteria: Artistic quality and ambition; Potential for audience engagement and/or development; Rationale for the proposal against the recommendations of the Theatre and Dance Touring review; Management plans; Financial plans and value for public funding.

Touring Fund Panel Members

Creative Scotland is seeking independent, professional Panel Members with sufficient availability and flexibility to respond to this opportunity. Tenderers should be familiar with the arts in Scotland, with a minimum of five years of professional expertise in dance and theatre touring. Panel members will also be expected to hold a breadth of knowledge relating to project development, management and evaluation to undertake panel work.

Applicants will be advised of the decision no later than 9 November 2018. Relevant training will be provided for all selected Panel members. Panel members will be paid a daily fee of £200 for panel participation and preparation (excluding VAT if applicable). This work will take up to three days across November and December depending on the number of assessments presented. Reasonable travel expenses (where these are incurred) will also be paid.
