The Association for Scottish Literary Studies

Founded in 1970, the Association for Scottish Literary Studies is an educational charity that aims to promote the study, teaching and writing of Scottish literature, and to further the study of the languages of Scotland.

The Association for Scottish Literary Studies (ASLS) publishes a range of titles, including the Scottish Literary Review, ScotLit, Scottish Language, New Writing Scotland, and the Scotnotes study guides.

Their website contains a substantial and growing body of downloadable essays, articles, papers and classroom notes.

Robert Louis Stevenson Day Readings

To mark Robert Louis Stevenson Day 2013, the Association for Scottish Literary Studies published Strange Tales, three uncanny stories by Robert Louis Stevenson. Two of Scotland's leading authors recorded readings for the publication:

Alan Bisset reads Thrawn Janet

James Robertson reads The Tale of Tod Lapraik

Alistair Braidwood and Ian Gregson of Scots Whay Hae! recorded these readings. Scots Whay Hae! is a website and podcast which deals with the best of Scottish literature, music and film.

The stories can also be read online, or downloaded as a PDF or ebook (with a Scots glossary), from http://asls.arts.gla.ac.uk/StrangeTales.html.

Visit the ASLS YouTube channel for more recordings and readings.
