This year, Creative Scotland is working with research partners, tialt, to undertake a review of the Scottish Government's Youth Music Initiative (YMI) to evaluate its purpose and the needs of children and young people, the culture sector, and wider policy areas in Scotland.
Now in its 23rd year, we want this review to provide an opportunity for everyone to step back and reflect on the longstanding impact of the YMI programme, what the youth music sector might have looked like without it and the ways in which we can improve it for the future.
We need your help to spread the word so we can reach staff, volunteers, teachers, community workers, local authority contacts and everyone else who has been involved in the programme.
There are two surveys:
- The YMI Local Authority Survey focuses on gathering views from anyone who has engaged with the YMI Formula Fund including local authority staff, project managers, tutors, and freelancers.
- The YMI Funded Organisations Survey aims to gather views from anyone who engaged in Access to Music Making, Strengthening Youth Music or YMI CPD and Training funded projects. This could include project managers, coordinators, music practitioners, artists, tutors, administrators, support staff and anyone else who’s helped make YMI happen.
Each survey should take no more than 20 minutes to complete and we're looking to gather as wide a range of views as possible, so please share this with your colleagues, partners, and freelance music practitioners or tutors who you know or have worked with. Their experiences are just as vital to understanding how YMI has evolved and where it’s heading.
All responses are anonymous, and if you’d like to contribute further, for example by taking part in a follow-up interview or focus group, there’s an option to provide your contact information at the end of the survey. For more information on how tialt will handle your personal information, please consult the surveys.
The outcomes of the review are due to be published in the Autumn.
