Scottish Contemporary Art Network (SCAN) has announced the appointment of Moira Jeffrey as director of the organisation.
Scottish Contemporary Art Network is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that connects and champions Scotland’s contemporary art community. SCAN’s 225 members work at the heart of communities from Shetland to the Scottish Borders and from East Lothian to the Western Isles.
A trusted voice and respected leader in the contemporary art community, Moira has more than 20 years of experience in the visual arts in Scotland including roles in arts journalism and broadcasting, public funding, development work and research. This appointment follows on from her previous role at SCAN as Advocacy and Development Lead. Moira joined SCAN in 2017, working across public affairs and advocacy as well as leading on development projects, partnerships, and events. She played a key role in developing SCAN’s flagship Curatorial Leaders in Collections (CLiC) programme and SCAN’s annual Summits.
Announcing the appointment, Veronique AA Lapeyre, Chair of SCAN’s Board, said: “We are delighted that Moira is taking up the helm of SCAN. She is an experienced leader and a real champion for the visual arts ecosystem. Moira will bring a wealth of cross-sector experience to this leading role at a crucial time. The Board and team look forward to working with her as the organisation continues to build on our programming and advocate on the pressing issues facing our members and community to policy makers, funders and government.”

Their creative work, vision and commitment has excited, challenged, and nourished me, both personally and professionally, for over two decades now.
This role comes at a time when we are all dealing with the challenges of a new lockdown and the cultural sector faces ongoing fragility. Scotland’s artists have shown amazing ingenuity and dedication in the face of the pandemic. Our visual arts organisations and cultural venues have continued to serve their communities in innovative ways and support artistic activity right across Scotland.
We know that cultural voices, cultural spaces, and cultural opportunities can be central to a fair, inclusive, and sustainable national recovery. The SCAN team will continue to do all that we can to ensure that Scotland’s contemporary art community is heard, supported and allowed to flourish.”
SCAN members include Scotland’s leading galleries, artists’ studios, workshops and production facilities and a highly skilled workforce of artists, art workers and creative thinkers. They sustain a network of free at the point of access, responsive and flexible institutions that anchor local communities and open their doors to their neighbours and visitors alike.
Moira will take up the role of director from early January 2021.
