Creative Scotland, Angus Council, Angus Alive and Hospitalfield are pleased to announce details of a place partnership that will support a programme of activity in Angus. The aim is to strengthen creative development across the region well in to the future.
The Angus Place Partnership is led by Hospitalfield in partnership with Angus Council, Angus Alive, Brechin 2020, Arbroath 2020, and is designed to encourage participation in the arts, support artists and celebrate the rich culture of the region.
The partnership will support a programme of activity across a three-year period from 2018-2021. Creative Producer, Pippa Martin has been appointed to work with Hospitalfield on delivering the programme.

The new Place Partnership will focus on five key areas of activity:
Located within Arbroath, Hospitalfield is dedicated to contemporary art and ideas’ and has an international standing for its programme of art residencies, masterclasses and workshops.
Hospitalfield Director Lucy Byatt, commented: “Above all I am excited about the opportunity to strengthen existing and develop new partnerships with the aim of making excellent culture part of the identity of Angus. There are so many artists, writers and creative people living in the region and of course this is a beautiful and historic place to invite artists to visit, to work with us. The Place Partnership will give a regional focus to our programmes and we warmly welcome Pippa to Angus.”
Pippa Martin joins the Place Partnership from previous positions at Grizedale Arts and most recently heading up a cross sector health and well-being cultural initiative at Blackpool Council.
On being appointed Pippa Martin, said: ‘’I am honoured to be joining Hospitalfield to lead the future Place Partnership for Angus. I see this as a great opportunity to support and expand the cultural vitality of Angus. This is an exciting time to be leading a programme that links developments at Hospitalfield to working with grass roots organisations, communities and contributing to flagship festivals across the region. My ambition is to support positive transformations across and through all forms of culture in a way that is ambitious and meaningful.”
The Place Partnership Programme was initiated by Creative Scotland and is aimed at designing a co-ordinated programme of activity across a distinct area, developed in collaboration with the local authority and other local partners.

2. Hospitalfield House first opened to the public in 1892; 2000 visitors came over a single weekend. Today it programmes major public events that take place four times each year. These events provide an opportunity to see the wonderful historic interiors of the house and to platform newly commissioned artist’s projects, performances, screenings, summer schools and talks. Hospitalfield is currently working on an £11.5m fundraising campaign with the aim of restoring the house and rejuvenating the facilities for audiences and for our arts programme. 3. ANGUSalive is the culture, sport and leisure trust for the county of Angus and has been operating since December 2015. The charity is ambitious and aims to provide the best services for its customers. ANGUSalive offers residents and visitors to Angus a wealth of services which are ‘changing lives by inspiring healthy, active and creative lifestyle choices’ through the use of its sports centres, country parks, theatres and venues, museums, galleries, archives and libraries. 4. Angus Council is the local authority for the Angus area. The Council is promoting a place based approach to the provision of public services through its locality planning activities with local communities. The Angus Place Partnership with Hospitalfield House is an early example of this new way of working. The Council is contributing £50,000 to the Arbroath 2020 and Brechin 2020 celebration projects. Creative Scotland have agreed £250,000 across the next three years towards the Angus place Partnership. Hospitalfield receives £300,000 across a three-year period from April 2018 – April 2021 from Scottish Government through Creative Scotland’s Regularly Funded Programme. Creative Scotland have also contributed £900,000 National Lottery Funding towards the capital development of Hospitalfield.
