In 2019, the Scottish Glass Society turns 40 (and we wish them a very happy birthday, indeed).
They’re celebrating with an exhibition, On the Edge, which was presented at North Lands Creative and is currently on display at the Trades Hall in Glasgow. This juried exhibition features work from 18 artists that show “the diversity of contemporary glass on the theme ‘on the edge’”.
The exhibition was funded by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland’s Open Project Fund, along with North Lands Creative and a number of individual trusts, while curatorial support came from Sarah Rothwell, Curator of Modern & Contemporary Design at the National Museum of Scotland.
Speaking about the exhibition, Rothwell said is is "really reflective of the diversity of glass artists that are based in Scotland."
She adds that the artists involved have created "some really interesting and unusual pieces working across different techniques and processes," noting how they are "capturing interesting narratives from the landscape to the social history of Scotland and experimenting with new processes and recycling."
