Alastair leads on strategy development, policy co-ordination, research and corporate planning. This includes responsibility for our Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion and Place, Partnerships and Communities teams.
Alastair began his career in the UK Civil Service as a social researcher working across a range of public policy areas. He spent nearly ten years with the UK National Audit Office and Audit Commission specialising in scrutiny of the effectiveness of Government policy initiatives.
Alastair joined Creative Scotland in 2011, leading the Knowledge and Research function, including managing major studies of social and economic impact and the evaluation of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme.
Alastair sat on the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 panel for Art and Design and has been a member of the Research Advisory panel for the International Federation of Arts Councils and Cultural Agencies (IFACCA) and the Measuring Change group of the National Partnership for Culture. His own interests include electronic music, photography and film.
