Scotland’s Music Convention Wide Days is set to return to the USA’s leading music industry conference South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, hosting an official showcase of Scottish talent and networking reception, supported by The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.

Taking place on Thursday 16 March, the Scotland at SXSW showcase will present a cross-section of emerging Scottish acts, encompassing indie-pop, rock, jazz, folk, experimental electronic and industrial techno-infused grunge.

Brooke Combe, Dead Pony, Elephant Sessions, Fergus McCreadie, Redolent, Poster Paints and VLURE will play the ‘Scotland at SXSW’ stage at The Creek and The Cave on Thursday 16 March from 20.00-02.00 CST.

In addition, Brighde Chaimbeul, Constant Follower, Hamish Hawk, Humour, Iona Zajac and Tamzene will also perform at the festival from 13-18 March.

Wide Days presence at SXSW forms part of a wider programme of international export work being delivered by the organisation, designed to provide developmental and promotional support to a broad range of artist and music industry representatives. These activities include receptions, showcases and trade missions at leading events such as ESNS / Eurosonic (Netherlands), Future Echoes (Sweden) and The Great Escape (UK, England).

Wide Days Director Michael Lambert said: “SXSW is a flagship event in the global industry calendar, and we’re delighted to be heading back to Austin to fly the flag for Scotland. In recent years, we have been working hard to create more export opportunities for a diverse range of artists from Scotland and we’re looking forward to building on last year’s success. From mercury-prize nominated jazz pianist Fergus McCreadie to industrial-techno-grunge band VLURE, our lineup boasts some of the most eclectic and interesting music Scotland has to offer.”

Creative Scotland’s Music Officer Jamie Houston said: “Scotland returns to the world’s largest music industry event with a multitude of styles from some of the most exciting artists in the country. Never before has SXSW been treated to folk, jazz, indie, soul and pop on one Scottish stage. Our partnership with Wide Days and PRS Foundation enables this crucial opportunity for bands and artists to take the next step in their career and connect with international music and media industries."

Following SXSW, Wide Events CIC will present the 14th edition of the Wide Days convention in Edinburgh from 13-15 April, bringing together the country’s music industry to connect and participate in sessions with industry delegates from across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world, including trade delegations from Canada and Mexico.

The event will also showcase a record 14 emerging Scottish artists, with four acts participating in an international talent development programme supported by PRS Foundation. Moreover, a partnership with Canadian showcase festival M For Montreal will see four artists from Quebec perform on the final evening as part of the Wide Days ‘Festival Takeover’ programme.
