The Scottish Government is seeking to appoint four new board members to Creative Scotland.

Creative Scotland is the national body for creative development. We support a Scotland where creative activity is vibrant, valued and experienced by everyone inclusively. We are here to enable creative people, communities, places and activity to thrive. The organisation distributes funding from the Scottish Government and the National Lottery with an annual budget in the region of £100m and a staff team of around 130 people.

The Scottish Government is seeking to appoint up to 4 new Board members to help Creative Scotland in the delivery of its work to the benefit of the creative and culture sector and to the people of Scotland as a whole. The Board comprises up to 14 members, led by the Chair, Robert Wilson.

We are particularly seeking people with:

  • A broad understanding of the culture and creative industries sector in Scotland, and a practical knowledge of how digital tools can be used to support the creation, dissemination and understanding of the sector and its wide output;
  • Experience in strategic organisational and transformational change projects in creativity and culture in Scotland; and
  • Experience of an inclusive approach to creativity and culture in direct partnership with – and in support of – a diverse range of communities in Scotland.

The Board members will play a key role in making strategic decisions on the delivery of Creative Scotland’s statutory functions, overseeing its effective governance, financial accountability and its delivery of value as a public body, in line with Scottish Government and Ministerial priorities.

These are high profile positions in Scottish public life and they offer an opportunity to make a significant and positive difference to Scotland’s creative and cultural life, society and economy. We encourage applications from individuals who feel they have the knowledge, experience, energy and commitment to successfully fulfil the demands of these roles.

You must also be able to demonstrate the following personal qualities, skills and experience:

  • Working collaboratively and constructively with the ability to constructively challenge others;
  • Analysing information and making decisions;
  • Governance and understanding the role of a board;
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about creativity and culture in Scotland; and
  • Communicating effectively

As a National Lottery distributor and public funder, Creative Scotland is committed to addressing diversity.

We are keen to attract applicants from under-represented groups, and who understand the barriers to entry and progression through lived experience. Applications are invited from a wide range of people, who have an interest in public service and are committed to the work of Creative Scotland. Scottish Ministers welcome applications from groups currently under-represented on Scotland’s public bodies, such as women, disabled people, ethnic minorities and people aged under 50.

The closing date for applications is: Friday 8 January 2021 at midnight.
