Applications open today, Monday 30 September 2019, for Scottish-based organisations to host a writer in residence.

The Dr Gavin Wallace Fellowship supports mid-career and established writers to develop creative work during a year-long residency within a variety of cultural, education, health and other environments.

Previous Fellow partnerships have included Jenni Fagen at Edinburgh’s Summerhall, Morna Young at Aberdeen City Council’s Creative Learning resource, Kirsty Logan at the Association for Scottish Literary Studies and Martin O’Connor at the Playwright’s Studio Scotland in partnership with the Royal Lyceum Theatre.

Mairi Kidd, Head of Literature, Languages & Publishing, Creative Scotland said: “The Dr Gavin Wallace Fellowship has a real impact on those it supports and the partnerships it enables each year.

“Creative Scotland recognises that children’s writers have been underrepresented in terms of fellowship and similar opportunities in Scotland and we are keen to ensure that this crucial cohort of writers – who shape our readers of the future have equal access to professional development opportunities.

“We are also aware of a pressing need to promote access to the arts to all communities and individuals and so especially welcome applications from organisations committed to diversifying Scotland’s artistic landscape.”

Organisations applying to host the Fellowship are invited to suggest a broad theme, which should be related to their own work. The successful host organisation will then recruit a writing fellow. An award of £25,000 is available and will be split into a £20,000 stipend for the successful writer and £5,000 for the host organisation.

The deadline for organisations to apply to host the 2020 Fellowship is Thursday 31 October 2019. Completed application forms and supporting materials should be submitted by email to drgavinwallacefellowship@creativescotland.com.
