£100,000 to boost career prospects of young people looking to work in the arts, screen and creative industries
Creative organisations across Scotland are invited to apply for funding from Creative Scotland to host a 12-month Traineeship opportunity for a young person. £100,000 is being made available to support 10 traineeships in the arts, screen and creative industries, to mark the Year of Young People 2018.
The Year of Young People Traineeship Programme aims to support employment prospects for young people aged 16-24 interested in progressing creative careers by providing valuable paid work experience opportunities.

With a total available budget of £100,000 from Creative Scotland's Targeted Fund, organisations can apply for up to £10,000 for a full-time, year-long Traineeship. It is anticipated that up to 10 traineeships will be supported.
The deadline for applications is 15 January 2018. Once the host organisations are confirmed, all Traineeships will be advertised on Creative Scotland’s Opportunities website.

The Creative Traineeship Fund celebrate this significant year through giving organisations and businesses in Scotland the opportunity to be an invaluable first step in a young artists or creatives career.
“The traineeship scheme will offer young people the opportunity to develop the skills and professional experience needed to progress in their chosen profession by removing barriers to paid work experience. At the same time, organisations will benefit from fresh, innovative ideas and enthusiasm of the trainees.”
The fund will prioritise organisations whose Traineeships will focus on, and develop, a recognised artistic or creative skill base – as opposed to more administrative or support roles. This can include an artistic or creative Traineeship across a wide range of art forms or creative fields – including (but not restricted to) film, theatre, dance, visual arts, literature, music and digital arts.
Two of the Traineeships will specifically support arts/creative organisations to host creative Traineeships for young Gaelic speakers, to help them develop their creative work in Gaelic.
Organisations are being offered up to £10,000 for a full-time, year-long Traineeship. Organisations will be expected to offer a contract of employment and contribute all other costs towards the salary and development of the Trainee. We support a Real Living Wage and Trainees must be paid a minimum of £8.75 per hour. Should the Real Living Wage rise, employers will be expected to match this (please note the Living Wage is normally announced in November each year). The Year of Young People 2018 is an opportunity to celebrate young personalities, talents, and achievers that make-up Scotland.
