From today (Monday 28 November), the brand new second series of Teacup Travels will be showing at 5:35pm weekdays on CBeebies.

Starring BAFTA award-winning actor Gemma Jones, the series was created by Edinburgh based TV and Film Production company Plum Films.

Filmed entirely in Scotland with funding from the BBC and Creative Scotland, sets were created in Loretto School, Musselburgh, Scotland and outdoor scenes filmed in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh at Gardener’s Cottage.

The series follows Great Aunt Lizzie’s spectacular stories that transport Charlotte, Elliot and, new to series 2, cousin Lokesh across the ancient world. The series is an exciting blend of historical fiction and fact, with genuine ancient museum relics appearing in every episode.

Series 1 was an immediate hit, attracting UK preschool audiences in excess of half a million and remaining in the top ten of children’s programmes for the majority of its first run, while enjoying international success in Australia when it launched there in January 2016.

Series 2 will return with 20 brand new episodes and cousin, screening daily at 5:35pm on Cbeebies, and available on BBC iPlayer 30 days afterwards.

Julia Bond, BBC Children’s Independent Executive said: “Teacup Travels is a lovely collaboration between museums, who are experts in their own field of archaeology, and creative storytelling. Through Charlotte and Lokesh we experience a lovely collection of stories wrapped up in the comforting voice of Great Aunt Lizzie, played by Gemma Jones. We have lots more surprises in store as the series unfurls, so keep a watchful eye on your screens, over the coming weeks.”

Jennifer Armitage, Screen Officer at Creative Scotland said: “We are proud to be able to support the team at Plum Films on the second series of the beautifully imagined Tea Cup Travels and we are particularly delighted that Series Two is continuing to develop and showcase Scottish acting and production talent.”

The brand new second series supported by Creative Scotland will be showing at 5.35pm weekdays on CBeebies from Monday 28 November and will be available on the iplayer for 30 days afterwards.

Notes to Editors

Teacup Travels is broadcast on the CBeebies children’s TV channel. The series was created by the Edinburgh based TV and Film production company Plum Films. It was produced by Micky MacPherson and Simon Parsons and is based on an original idea by Anthony Bibby.

Filmed entirely in Scotland with funding from the BBC and Creative Scotland, sets were created in Loretto School, Musselburgh, Scotland and outdoor scenes filmed in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh at Gardener’s Cottage.

Oscar winning production designer Les Dilley created the unique sets that bring the stories and settings so vividly to life whilst the beautifully illustrated backgrounds from the story world were created by digital designer John Gosler, who has worked closely with Disney Studios throughout his career. The original orchestral theme and accompanying background music were composed by Rasmus Borowski and Alexis Tshcallener and recorded by a live philharmonic  orchestra.
