Scottish acts are set to make an impression on music industry professionals from across the globe at The Great Escape 2016, Europe’s leading festival for new music.
Representing music across a variety of genres from classical, indie, pop, glam rock, psychedelia, folk and traditional music, delegates will enjoy performances from Anna Meredith, Catholic Action, Isle, JR Green, Man of Moon, Tuff Love and White at two Showcasing Scotland concerts presented by Creative Scotland. The gigs will be hosted by BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway on Thursday 19 May and
Friday 20 May at Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton.

Running from 19 – 21 May, the 11th edition of the festival opens its doors to 3,500 music industry professionals on the hunt for the next big thing, 450 of the best new bands, and 100+ influential speakers.
In celebration of 40 Years of Punk, Big Gold Dream: Scottish Post-Punk and Infiltrating the Mainstream, a documentary looking back at the post punk movement in Scotland will also be screening as part of the Raindance Film Festival programme at The Great Escape.
Alongside the live music, The Great Escape presents the UK’s leading music business convention, bringing together thousands of music industry practitioners for three days of insight sessions, panels, conversations and networking.
As part of the convention Creative Scotland is hosting a networking event on Saturday 21 May (2-3pm) at Jubilee Gardens focusing on developing the profile of Scottish music with attending industry delegates. Ahead of hosting the Showcasing Scotland gigs, BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway, said: "It's an exciting time for contemporary Scottish music just now, with a wide range and depth of styles and genres to choose from. The seven acts supported by Creative Scotland playing at 'The Great Escape' demonstrate that diversity across indie, acoustic, electronic, classical and pop. Big Gold Dream: Scottish Post-Punk and Infiltrating the Mainstream the winner of the audience award at the 69th Edinburgh International Film Festival, takes a look back at Fast Product an independent record label, established in Edinburgh. Featuring candid interviews with those behind the scenes, those on the periphery and the main-players - Rezillos, Scars, Fire Engines, Josef K, Dirty Reds, Flowers, Thursdays, Boots For Dancing, Associates, The Twin-Sets, Joy Division and The Human League, and of course the city itself - Edinburgh in the late 1970’s is painted in all its dark and gritty realism. Supported by Creative Scotland through the Targeted Screen Fund the documentary was Directed by Grant McPhee and produced by Wendy Griffin.
The screening will feature a Q&A hosted by Heavenly Record's Paul Kelly and featuring Grant McPhee, Bob Last and Douglas Hart (The Jesus and Mary Chain).
On screening at the festival Director Grant McPhee, said: “I'm delighted Raindance and TGE are showing our film as part of the 40 years of punk celebrations. It's a story that was only partially told, even in Scotland so to have it screened rather than a film about the more well known players - Sex Pistols, Clash or Damned is amazing and says a lot about the quality of music that was produced in Scotland in the late 70s and early 1980s. It's going to be a great night. Bob Last, who was one of the key figures in the music scene will be at the Q+A, along with the Jesus and Mary Chain's Douglas Hart which will be hosted by Heavenly Film's Paul Kelly.”
Tickets to Big Gold Dream: Scottish Post-Punk and Infiltrating the Mainstream can be booked now. This screening takes place on Thursday 19 May at The Bosco Theatre.
