The Scottish Awards for New Music 2023 are now open for nominations. Celebrating Scotland’s vibrant and innovative contemporary music scene, this year’s awards will shine a spotlight on the groundbreaking work which has taken place across the length and breadth of the country.
Entries are open across seven award categories and will recognise composers, musicians, sound artists, programmers, producers and ensembles whose work demonstrates creative excellence. Looking to showcase the diverse and experimental talent that exists in Scotland today, the awards welcome entrants whose work pushes the boundaries of what people expect from contemporary music.
A new category has been announced for this year, the Award for New Music Trailblazer, open to those who are breaking down barriers to improve the new music sector in areas such as under-representation and advocacy work. The 2023 categories are:
- Award for New Music Performance
- Award for New Music Programme
- The Dorico Award for Small Scale Work, sponsored by Steinberg
- Award for Large Scale New Work
- Award for New Music Recording
- Award for New Music Project
- Award for New Music Trailblazer
The awards are open for nominations from Monday 22 May until Monday 12 June and anyone can enter.

This event celebrates some of the most breath-taking music being made in Scotland today by an array of creatively ambitious artists, composers and programmers. It also sets an incredibly high bar for the music of tomorrow, as Scotland’s new music scene captures the eyes, ears, and imagination of the world.”
The awards are organised by New Music Scotland with support from Creative Scotland. The award sponsors include Steinberg Dorico.
