Areas of responsibility

Colin leads the Creative Learning and Young People team who oversee the delivery of targeted funding programmes and development projects, working with youth arts, education and third sector partners to advocate for, strengthen and realise the potential of arts and culture for children and young people across Scotland.

His team provides overview of Creative Scotland’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and Corporate Parenting.

Background and experience

Originally seconded to Creative Scotland in 2013 to lead on the design of the implementation of Scotland first National Youth Arts Strategy, Colin went on to manage the full delivery of the programme, becoming Head of Creative Learning and Young People in 2018.

Before Creative Scotland, Colin was CEO of Youth Theatre Arts Scotland, where he worked over nine years to develop the scope, scale, and profile of Scotland’s youth theatre sector.

Colin led the youth theatre for the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh for six years and spent time in the Western Highlands as an outreach youth theatre worker for Eden Court Theatre, originally establishing his career in youth arts in the South of England with the Thorndike Young Peoples Theatre.

Colin has worked freelance as a youth theatre director, producer, and advisor across the UK and internationally and has also been on the board for several youth and children’s theatre organisations.
