Areas of responsibility

As Interim Director of Arts, Paul provides leadership to the Arts and Engagement team at Creative Scotland, which comprises the five artform teams and the Creative Learning team. Key responsibilities include supporting Specialism Leads to champion the work funded by and initiated by Creative Scotland in each of their areas of practice, and to work with other members of the Senior Leadership Team to drive the development of funding programmes,  partnerships, and policy.

Background and experience

Paul has had a varied career that has included roles in visual arts, local authority arts development, youth arts and the hip-hop music industry.

For the last 15 years Paul's work has focused on the dance sector, primarily as a producer and programmer. Previous roles include Director of Programming and Producing at DanceXchange and International Dance Festival Birmingham; Associate Director at Greenwich Dance and Dance4; and Interim Artistic Director at Yorkshire Dance. He has also undertaken freelance projects as a coach, dramaturg and consultant with a range of artists in the dance, theatre and live art sectors, as well as organisations including The Royal Court Theatre, The Place, Arts Council England and The Jerwood Charitable Foundation.

He is a board member of the Bristol-based Action Hero, and is chair of Birmingham's Fierce Festival.

Paul joined Creative Scotland in 2018 as Head of Dance.
