The Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, Ms Fiona Hyslop, today announced the appointment of Elizabeth Partyka, David Strachan and Ewan Angus as Members of the Board of Creative Scotland.
Chair of the Creative Scotland Board, Robert Wilson, said: “I am very pleased to welcome David, Elizabeth and Ewan to the Creative Scotland Board. They bring impressive knowledge, expertise and extensive experience of broadcasting, television and film which will be hugely beneficial in helping drive further growth for Scotland's film and TV sector as set out in the plans for the Screen Unit.
“This is the first wave of appointments that will further enhance the current board, with a second round of recruitment planned for later this year. As we go through a period of organisational development, these two rounds of Board appointments are part of helping to clarify and strengthen Creative Scotland’s role in support of the arts, screen and creative industries across all parts of Scotland on behalf of everyone who lives, works or visits here.”
Elizabeth Partyka has had an extensive broadcasting career working with commercial radio, BBC Scotland, Granada TV, Buena Vista and most recently STV. In May 2015 she received the RTS Scotland Award for her services to television. She joined STV as Head of Children’s Programming in 1995, later becoming MD of Network Productions and was appointed Channel controller in 2007, a role she left in 2007. Elizabeth is currently a member of Edinburgh Napier University Court and Scotland’s Screen Academy.
David Strachan was founding managing director of Tern Television in 1988 and saw the growth of the company from staff of four to more than fifty in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Belfast until he stepped down from that role in June 2018. For nineteen years he was Scottish representative on the board of the producers trade association and also served a term on the board of Scottish Screen. He has been active in making the cases in London and Scotland for increased production from the Nations. As a producer, he has been part of teams which have won several BAFTAS and other awards.
Ewan Angus worked for the BBC for 32 years, more than half that time as commissioning editor for television at BBC Scotland. He has extensive experience of TV and Film production and co-production within the UK and internationally. He also brings a deep understanding of audiences and changing patterns of media consumption. Ewan has an impressive track record in identifying and developing creative talent in the screen sector. During his time at BBC Scotland he consistently demonstrated support for a diverse range of activity in the arts across Scotland. Alongside his BBC role, Ewan has sat on a number of industry committees including a three year term as chair of BAFTA Scotland.
