Creative Scotland's support for Screen

Published: 11 Dec 2017

Today we publish a comprehensive update on the measures taken by Creative Scotland during the financial year 2016-17 to support the Screen Sector in Scotland and to achieve the aims and ambitions set out in our Strategy, Creative Scotland: On Screen.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Increased incentives for Film and Television production
  • Focussing funding on the development and production of high-quality feature films, documentaries and animation from Scottish-based talent
  • Establishing sustainable Studio Facilities
  • Developing Talent and Skills across the screen sector value chain
  • Increasing support for writers, directors and script development
  • Increasing support for, and investment across, the distribution and exhibition sector with a focus on audience development
  • Supporting film and moving image education

The update, available below, is published to coincide with Creative Scotland’s submission to the Culture Tourism, Europe and External Relations Inquiry into Scotland’s Screen Sector, and the publication of the Screen Unit proposal, which has now been approved by Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs.

The Inquiry is looking into how the Screen Sector Leadership Group’s report recommendations on strengthening and developing the Scottish screen sector can be implemented. The report set out a series of actions that could be achieved in the next five years if there was strong leadership, a comprehensive strategy and appropriate investment and support for the sector.
