Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin

Youth music opportunities in Scotland are thriving through a nationwide network of passionate individuals and organisations who are working to develop and deliver a wide range of accessible regular music making activities for young people. To shine a light on the diverse range of provision offered across the country Creative Scotland commissioned a trilogy of videos in late 2010.
The first in this series profiles the Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin, a group that was set up in 1995 by a group of parents who wanted to provide an opportunity for young people from across the city to come together and learn skills in traditional Scottish music. Over the past 15 years the organisation has grown from strength to strength and, in addition to the hugely popular annual Easter event, has a year-round programme of workshops and performance opportunities for young people aged 9 – 25.
The video features committee member David Francis, tutor James Ross and the young people involved in the project.
