SPOTLIGHT ON Collect 2011

Re-launched at the Saatchi Gallery London in 2009, following five successful years at the V&A, COLLECT has established itself as the place to view and buy the very best in contemporary craft.
This year at COLLECT, craftscotland showcased 11 of the most talented Scottish craft makers across a broad mix of disciplines. The intention of the showcase was to demonstrate how Scottish makers embrace, and often pioneer, cutting-edge design practices in response to the digital age and new advancements in technology. It was also hoped that visitors to the exhibition would take away an understanding of the rich sense of heritage that influences makers living and working in Scotland.
The makers represented by craftscotland at COLLECT 2011 were:
craftscotland COLLECT Development Bursary
As well as providing a platform for established Scottish makers to showcase their work, craftscotland has recognised the need to provide a platform to help makers develop their work and prepare for large scale events such as COLLECT.
Created in response to feedback received from those who showcased at last year’s event, 2011 has seen the first ever Development Bursaries awarded to Scottish makers who want to showcase at COLLECT in the future. Six makers have received the bursary so far this year.
Travel and accommodation expenses form part of the bursary and are supported through funding awarded to craftscotland by Creative Scotland.
"The COLLECT bursaries have come about as a result of feedback from some of the makers we took to COLLECT 2010. They told us that there were areas they felt they needed support in such as networking and approaching galleries for the first time. Whilst funding is scarce for this type of maker support, we have the appropriate expertise in house along with the dedication to developing makers in ways that are appropriate for shows such as COLLECT in 2011. As well as providing a great support for the six makers selected, it’s also a hint at the type of services makers will be seeing more of once our membership is launched later this year." - Emma Walker craftscotland CEO
