The all-new 'Creative Scotland Kaleidoscope Club' - bringing together the best in music, art and culture

As T in the Park fans are counting down the days until the weekend of a lifetime begins, organisers are delighted to announce the arrival of another brand new structure for this year - the Creative Scotland Kaleidoscope Club.  Working in partnership with The Arches and Creative Scotland, the festival will pull in a diverse range of performances and art around the festival site and in the Kaleidoscope Club itself, with some of the finest talent from across the country, from ceilidh to classical music with a 21st century twist, to dance and an array of entertainment gems in between.

This announcement comes fresh from organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager revealing the brand spanking new entertainment area Sunset Strip, which includes the relocated Slam Tent, all-new Cabaret Club and the Sunset Club. The Creative Scotland Kaleidoscope Club further broadens the amazing array of entertainment offerings at T in the Park for 2012. 

Located in Kaleidoscope Fields which includes Healthy T and the Eco Village, festivalgoers will get a taste of everything from string quartets to physical theatre, solar powered films to urban dance. The Arches Community Choir will perform, there’ll be graffiti artists alongside robots, and art installations as a backdrop to the flurry of fabulous entertainment going on.  That’s not to mention a special guest appearing in the Creative Scotland Kaleidoscope Club and the floating entertainment within the Kaleidoscope Fields. 

Inside the Creative Scotland Kaleidoscope Club:

Cairn String Quartet and Electric String Orchestra take classical music into the 21st century. Both the Cairn String Quartet and the Electric String Orchestra push the boundaries of string tradition, with a contemporary and unique take on classical music. Specializing in the unique arrangement and performance of all musical genres, but particularly rock and pop which has led their playlist to be like no other; from Bach to Beyonce, Mozart to Metallica and Sinatra to Star Wars.

Horndog Brass Band’s sound is one which connects instantly with fans of many genres, from funk and jazz through to hip hop and contemporary music. It is a sound to move feet, warm souls and put smiles on faces. Their repertoire is made up of fresh originals by musical directors Tom Pickles and Tom Donaldson, a wide range of brassed up cover versions ranging from Aerosmith to the Grange Hill theme tune, and some more ‘traditional’ funk with a New Orleans twist.

Flying Jalapenos are Glasgow’s premiere b-boy & hip-hop crew. This year is their 10th anniversary, and since their formation a decade ago, they’ve been getting bigger and better. It all started with only the two founders, but their numbers now surpass twenty – all of whom are seriously impressive.  The international crew, which includes dancers from Scotland, France, Poland, Philippines & Taiwan, will be tearing the tent up with their mix of freestyle dancing, routines, acrobatics, comedy and a whole lot more.

Ceilidhdonia will make a welcome return to T in the Park.  Not your average ceilidh band, not even your average band, they are led by acrobatic accordionist, Sandy Brechin, with a line-up that rocks ‘n’ reels through a variety of classics to keep the crowd going. Cutting-edge ceilidh band and DJ Whiskey Kiss will be mixing the finest underground folk tunes and native instruments with 21st century DJ culture, and young, high energy band KODA will be performing Scottish Music in their own unique contemporary style. CAL is a new, exiting five piece rock band who will showcase their passion and their intense love of two things,   music and their homeland Scotland.  T in the Parkers can get ready to rock the night away.

Glasgow music/cabaret girl group The Redettes will also wow the crowds with their unique style and performance collective and festival favourites Bearded Kitten will be hosting a variety of events throughout the weekend, including live comperes, DJs, visuals games, free give aways, stage dancers and loads and loads of energy. Not to be missed.

Floating entertainment in Kaleidoscope Fields:

Herbert’s Dream is a truly magical and mesmerising attraction that will come to life in the evening and light up the sky. As the stars twinkle above Kinross, five mysterious white figures beckon you to join them for an evening procession in search of light. As they weave their path through the fields, they transform into majestic, ethereal characters. Festival fans can follow them on a journey to specific destinations, where they carry out a beautiful light-filled and bewitching finale to enchanting music.  See Herbert’s Dream at Sunset Strip on Thursday evening, Kaleidoscope Fields on Friday evening and other locations across Saturday and Sunday.

There’s also the chance to experience the world’s one and only human Jukebox. The Dukes Box is a custom built audio-visual show that crams an entire band – resplendent in gold and spandex – plus a sound system and light show, into a jukebox the size of a wardrobe.  Energetic, adventurous and hilarious, the divinely kitsch Dukes Box was born from a rather dead 1960s 2-berth caravan, rising from the ashes like a phoenix from the flames to become a truly magnificent mobile musical marvel. The audience is invited to pop-pick one of 35 songs, and then view a live recital of their choice by the infamous Dukes within the Box. From jazz, folk, rock, techno, reggae, bluegrass, hip hop, thrash metal, 16th century ballads and current chart toppers, they cover it and are brilliantly funny, hugely entertaining and entirely unique.

The Sol Cinema is a brand new micro movie house, powered entirely by the sun. This super cute retro styled picture house holds only eight people at a time and shows everything from independent short films about the environment to music videos and silly snippets of quirky nonsense in between. Lavished with pride and style, it uses a low energy LED projector and lithium batteries to store the energy from the sun to power the cinema all day and night.  So for a moment of escapism in a tiny cinematic box, then this is the place to come!

The addition of the all-new Creative Scotland Kaleidoscope Club is sure to thrill the 85,000 festival goers per day that will spend the weekend of a lifetime at T in the Park 2012, over 6-8th July.
