Scottish showcase line-ups at South by Southwest (21/02/2013)
An exciting line up of Scottish bands and DJS, including award winning indie rockers The View, hip hop trio Young Fathers and DJ JD Twitch from Optimo, will make up the bills for two Scottish showcases at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.
(L-R: PAWS and Young Fathers are amoung the Scottish bands making the trip to SXSW this March)
Kassidy, The View, Camera Obscura, PAWS, Holy Esque and Tango in the Attic take to the stage of the British Music Embassy from 8pm on Wednesday 13 March for Showcasing Scotland, presented by Creative Scotland and PPL Music.
The second concert pulses with some of the brightest names from Scotland’s electronic music scene.
In addition to presenting the showcases, Creative Scotland is also supporting The View, Camera Obscura, Young Fathers, PAWS, Kassidy, Jackmaster and JD Twitch and JG Wilkes from Optimo to perform at this year’s SXSW.
“We are really excited about SXSW,” said Hamish Fingland of Glaswegian folk rockers Kassidy. “We've always wanted to play America and this will be a great place to start.”
Caroline Parkinson, Director of Creative Development at Creative Scotland, said:
“These showcases draw audience, including industry, to Scotland's presence at SXSW, which provides business opportunities for the musicians, and keeps Scotland’s talent in the international spotlight.”
Taking place this year from 8 to 17 March, the 27th annual SXSW event combines music, film and interactive conferences and festivals.
SXSW is one of the largest and most important events in the music industry calendar and recognised as providing an important platform for artists to develop their careers internationally.
Event organisers predict 19,000 music industry professionals including 3,000 media representatives and thousands of fans will attend music events taking place in venues across the city.
Following their attendance at SXSW in 2012, Scottish artists benefitted from a range of new business opportunities, including Three Blind Wolves who secured US booking agent representation from Paradigm, the agency who represent Coldplay, while Tango in the Attic had their music used on US TV shows Gallery Girls, The L word and The Real World and were taken on by Brooklyn-based radio promotion based agency Crowd Control.
