Bagpipes and Battlements as Piping Live! Tours Scottish Castles (03/08/2012)

Piping Live! Glasgow’s annual festival of all things bagpipe, has sent some of the world’s finest pipers on a grand tour of some of Scotland’s most striking historical landmarks.

In a tour that has taken in locations as breathtaking as Eilean Donan, to the battlefield at Culloden, each event has offered an opportunity for locals and visitors to try playing the pipes themselves.

Castles including Culzean and Dunollie hosted a line-up of world renowned pipers, including Glenfiddich Champion Pipe Major Gordon Walker and Dunvegan medal winner Niall Stewart. The stunning Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull hosted the talents of top piper Neil Walker and gold medalist Chris Armstrong took to the battlements of Stirling Castle.

The free events offer a taster of next week’s Piping Live! Glasgow International Piping Festival between the 6 - 12 August. Now in its ninth year the festival is the biggest of its kind in the world, with thousands of music fans, musicians and pipers from around the globe descending upon Glasgow for the week-long celebration of traditional and modern piping music.
