SXSW 2013

*Applications to this funding route are now closed for 2013.*
The 2013 Scottish Music Showcase at SXSW will be delivered by Creative Scotland in association with the Scottish Music Industry Association. Artists who have already applied to showcase at SXSW can apply for support to assist with the cost of appearing at the event.*
Your Application
We are looking for artists/bands who have a clear and realistic plan to improve their professional careers and deliver business development and growth as a result of showcasing.
Applicant artists and bands should already be well established in both Scotland and the rest of the UK and have enjoyed some international success. You should also be able to demonstrate that you are ready to seize upon the opportunities that SXSW present. You will need to detail your track record, the things you have planned for the next 3-4 months and what you outline for SXSW.
Investments will be made on a per head basis at a pre-agreed rate of £800 per band member. An additional £800 is available (if required) to those artists who have a professional full time or part time Scottish-based manager, who is legally constituted (as a company or sole-trader) and has been established for at least one year. Evidence of this status may be requested prior to investment.
Please complete the application and budget with as much detail as possible, and itemise your budget and show your working in the notes, as per example.
The deadline for applications is: Friday 30 November 2012 at 5pm.
Please email your applications to sxsw@creativescotland.com.
Any emails received after the deadline date will not be considered.
* This investment programme is only open to artists and bands who have already applied directly to SXSW to appear at the festival. If you have not already applied to SXSW for a showcase you cannot apply to this programme.
SXSW Process – Further Information
Programming and selection for SXSW is done by the Festival and not by Creative Scotland, and we will not be able to support any artist who has not been invited to showcase as part of the official SXSW Music Festival. No investment will be offered until an official invitation is received.
It is likely that the majority of you will have received invitations or been notified of your status before the deadline for our application, however there may be some cases where we are unable to give you a decision until your status is confirmed by SXSW.
Applicants should note that this is a highly competitive process and that receiving an invitation from SXSW to showcase does not necessarily mean you will be offered financial support from Creative Scotland.
We will endeavour to let everyone know whether they have been successful in securing support by 7 December however we may not be able to give you an answer if you status is not confirmed by SXSW.
Applicants should also note that success in this process does not guarantee that you will have a slot on any Scottish Showcase at SXSW. Programming of these will be done once we know who will be at SXSW.
To be eligible to apply artists or bands must be permanently resident in Scotland. Artists living outside of Scotland in the UK should apply to the PRSF/UKTI/ACE – British Music Abroad programme no later than 30 November 2012.
Visas
Successful applicants will be required to secure the correct visa for entry to the USA and this process is costly and time-consuming. Despite not having an answer from SXSW as regards to your invitation or from Creative Scotland regarding investment, you should ensure that you fully understand the visa process and that you have assembled all the required information and paperwork you need, so that you can send it at the earliest opportunity.
There is an additional cost involved in securing a fast-track visa and we wish you to avoid having to pay this wherever possible.
Some less-established artists may not yet have everything required to secure US performers visa(s), in this instance it may be the case that it’s too early for you to be considering a showcase at SXSW.
If you have any questions on any aspect of this process or on SXSW in general please email sxsw@creativescotland.com, including brief details of your query or question as well as a contact number, and we will get in touch with you at the earliest opportunity.
There will be a training event for those who are successful in being selected for SXSW during January and we will be in touch with more information about this shortly.
