SXSW Funding

About the Programme

South by South West (SXSW) is the largest music industry conference and festival in the world. For 12 years, Creative Scotland oversaw a Scottish Music Showcase at SXSW. Musicians and industry personnel were able to apply for funding to attend SxSW.

During 2015/16 Creative Scotland are undertaking a comprehensive review of our international activity across the arts, screen and creative industries as we work towards the publication of our first International Strategy in 2016. The draft International Strategy will be published for sector and public feedback during 2016.

Within this context, Creative Scotland are taking a break from producing a dedicated showcase at the 2016 SxSW festival whilst we take stock of our current music showcasing commitments as part of the development of our overarching strategy going forward.

Situation for bands selected by SxSW to perform

All acts selected by SXSW to perform at the festival will be offered an official showcase by the festival programming team. Any musicians and industry representatives are welcome to consider applying for funding to help support attendance at SxSW 2016, through our Open Project Fund. Anyone who does intend to apply for funding will need to note the timescales for our decision-making - and apply for support with sufficient lead time to enable us to make an assessment (ie at least 8 weeks before the event happens). If you do not apply to us with enough lead time, your application will not be assessed.
