Youth Music Initiative
Music For Youth @ The Royal Albert Hall
43 young Scottish musicians performed in London’s historic Royal Albert Hall in November as part of the three day Music for Youth School Proms concerts.
The opportunity brought together 33 young traditional musicians and 10 young brass band players from across Scotland, who took part in a rehearsal week at Fèis Rois Senior Fèis in Ullapool in October, before making the journey south to perform alongside 3000 other young people from across the UK under the name Ceolraidh.
You can watch a Classic FM interview conducted backstage at the Albert Hall with two members of traditional band Ceòlraidh below.
More about Music for Youth
Music for Youth is a national music education charity providing free access to performance and audience opportunities for young musicians across the UK through its annual season of festivals and concerts.
Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative is investing £104,895 in a three year programme delivered by the charity that will see them work with a range of partners to develop their regional and national events in Scotland. In 2012 three regional festivals in Glasgow (17 February), Perth (17 March) and Highlands (25 March) will be established along with a National Festival in Perth on 8 June. These festivals are a great opportunity for groups of all experience, background and genre to perform to new audiences, listen to other groups and get valuable feedback from the MFY Mentors.
The Scottish programme was launched on the 28 October at Perth Concert Hall and included performances from Drake Music, NYCoS Stirling Area Choir, Scottish Brass Band Association, and a band from Rock School.
