The eclectic programme runs from the 30 Jan – 4 Feb and features companies and practitioners from across the UK as well as Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany and Russia.
Some of the festival highlights to look out for include:
Plucked...A True Fairy Tale (31 Jan) – English company Invisible Thread combine puppetry, animation, object theatre and video feed painting to create a unique and piece of visual theatre.
Polaris (1 Feb) – Czech theatre company Wariot Ideal, present a tale of two 19th century polar explorers who are lost and freezing to death.
Off to the Asylum (2 Feb) – a collection of short films featuring tall tales and visceral imaginings from across Europe, which expose the lengths we go to in order to explore the ‘madness of human nature’.
Speaking about the 2012 programme, Simon Hart, Artistic Director of Puppet Animation Scotland said: ‘Over the past five years, we have enjoyed bringing the best visual theatre and animation to Scotland to kickstart the theatrical year and I'm sure the programme for the 2012 manipulate Visual Theatre Festival will fire the imaginations of our audience.’
As part of the Festival’s remit of providing development opportunities for Scottish practitioners, there is also a free seminar on Successful International Touring taking place on the 1 February, which aims to stimulate discussion and debate about what type of work makes for successful touring to audiences beyond the UK.
