Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop
A few days before the building officially opened to the public, we were given a guided tour of the new facility and took the opportunity to ask ESW Director, Irene Kernan, and artist / technician Kate Ive some questions.
We also asked Kate a bit more about her work as an artist...
Phase 2
In addition to the fantastic new building, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop will also use £3million they received from the Arts Funding Prize for Edinburgh to fund phase two of the new facility – the Creative Laboratories.

An architectural model of how the building will look after Phase 2.
The Laboratories and courtyard will be situated alongside the new building, providing workspace both indoors and outdoors. There will also be a viewing area and café for visitors to see the work of the artists. Phase two is scheduled to begin in September 2012 with the hope of the laboratories opening Autumn 2013.
Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop will hold an open day on Saturday 7 July, 11am-4pm, to give the community a unique chance to have a tour of the building, as well as view an exhibition with artwork by Professor Bill Scott PPRSA - Chair of ESW from 1999 to 2012 - and an archive exhibition tracing ESW’s development over the last 25 years.
In 2008, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop received £2.3m of funding for the new sculpture centre via the Scottish Arts Council National Lottery Awards.
