Introducing our external assessors and panel members

June 2017

Earlier this year, we advertised for external assessors and panel members to assist with administering our Open Project Funding programme. The purpose of this is to bring additional support and expertise to Creative Scotland during the summer period when many of our art form specialism staff are dedicating much of their time to assessing applications for Regular Funding, 2018-21.

We are pleased to say that we received a fantastic response from a broad range of people with experience in different art forms, giving us access to a strong, diverse and knowledgable potential network of assessors.

Following this open recruitment process, we have now appointed 38 assessors to this external pool, all of whom will bring their knowledge and expertise to the assessment and decision making process for Open Project Funding while the first phase of Regular Funding assessment is taking place.

This will allow us to ensure that the assessment of applications to both Funds will continue to be robust and fair, managed by people with appropriate levels of knowledge and expertise, working alongside our senior specialism staff at all times.- Iain Munro, Deputy Chief Executive

The assessors and panel members who have been appointed to support our staff are:

  • Crafts - Helen Voce and Clare Hanna
  • Creative Learning - Joe Traynor and Eona Craig
  • Dance - Kally Lloyd-Jones, Jennifer Philips and Aleksandra Webb
  • Design - Sion Parkinson
  • Digital - Rebecca Thompson
  • Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion - Ruth Currie and Amble Skuse
  • Literature - Philippa Johnston, Claire Askew, David Robinson and Doug Johnstone
  • Music - Yann Seznec, Jo Buckley, Barry Didcock, Simon Gall, Jennifer McGlone, Helen Munro and Jennifer Martin

  • Theatre - Sam Eccles, Angela Hogg, Hazel Wotherspoon, Natalie Querol, Gillian Shaw, David Taylor and Christabel Anderson.
  • Visual Arts - Ben Spencer, Katy West, Lottie Thorne, Rhona Warwick-Paterson, Fiona Dean and Jonathan Price.

The external pool of assessors and panel members will carry out two different functions. Firstly, they will help in assessing Open Project Fund applications and, secondly, they will participate, alongside Creative Scotland staff, in the panels where decisions on funding awards are taken.

Those appointed hold credible professional knowledge and expertise from within the arts, screen and creative industries and all have a minimum of five years of professional experience within one or more art form specialism and a breadth of knowledge of project development, management, budgeting and of public funding for arts and culture.
