Year of Creative Scotland 2012

Year of Creative Scotland 2012 is the beginning of an exciting programme that will embrace London 2012 and celebrate Glasgow 2014. It's a chance to spotlight, celebrate and promote Scotland’s cultural and creative strengths on a world stage, and to position Scotland as one of the world’s most creative nations to audiences at home and across the world. Through a dynamic year-long programme of activity we will celebrate our world-class events, festivals, artistic and cultural heritage.

Creative Scotland has created a programme that shows Scotland’s creativity at its best; contemporary, international and reflecting the joy that a vibrant cultural life brings to our communities. Overall, we will invest at least £6.5 million from our National Lottery funds into making the Year an outstanding experience for audiences and artists.

But 2012 is not just about new initiatives. It's about showcasing the range and breadth of quality artistic and cultural output that we produce every year: year in, year out. It's about giving creative organisations a platform to promote their work and as part of a significant national effort to inspire more people to access and participate in the arts.

How Can You Get Involved?

We expect that every creative organisation in Scotland will want to take part in the Year of Creative Scotland and there are two ways to do this:

  • By promoting your programme and events online to millions of visitors who plan to visit Scotland during the Year of Creative Scotland 2012. VisitScotland, the national tourism body, will be specially promoting the Year to the UK and international tourism trade and UK travellers. Submit your event.
  • By carrying the specially-designed Year of Creative Scotland logo across your programmes, exhibition catalogues or other marketing material. View and download our toolkit.

More About Year of Creative Scotland 2012

In order to maintain the momentum created by Homecoming Scotland 2009, The Scottish Government committed to a series of focus years running from 2010 to 2013 to ensure co-ordinated national activity to spotlight some of Scotland’s great assets as we journey toward 2014 and a second year of Homecoming. Creative Scotland has been chosen as the key partner to work alongside Visit Scotland, EventScotland and VOCAL in delivering the The Year of Creative Scotland 2012.
