To celebrate the Year of Creative Scotland 2012 we supported a programme of work to help show Scotland’s creativity at its best; contemporary, international and reflecting the joy that a vibrant cultural life brings to our communities.
Overall, we invested over £6.7 million from our National Lottery funds into making the Year an outstanding experience for audiences and artists. Individuals and organisations were able to apply for investment through the following four strands:
Culture and Tourism
Over £1.8 million has been invested in 42 innovative collaborations between the tourism and culture sectors, to promote Scotland’s creativity on a global platform and raise the country’s profile as a tourist destination. More info on our Culture and Tourism awards » |

First in a Lifetime
We’ve invested over £3.9 million in 36 exceptional projects to increase “first in a lifetime” opportunities for people who do not normally get the chance to participate in creative activity in Scotland. More info on our First in a Lifetime awards » |

One Step Further
As part of the celebration and promotion of 2012 as Year of Creative Scotland, we invested over £500,000 to help 16 existing festivals to enhance their programme. More info on our One Step Further awards » |

Creative Place Awards
The Awards aim to celebrate the value of creativity to the social and economic wellbeing of smaller communities across Scotland, and to reward the hard work and imagination of such places. In total, £380,000 was awarded to the three category winners and two recipients of a special award. The cash prizes will allow each community to enhance their activity further.
